BACKSTORY

haein always thought of the reason why she and her twin brother don't really have the same birthday while most twins do, was because she did not want to share everything with him growing up, she presumed that she did something inside their mom's womb on the day they are supposed to be birthed that kept her inside. she always joked about how she probably attempted to eat hyun in the womb and how she kicked him out first and stayed there as long as she can because she had been in a tight space with him for nine whole months, their dad thinks that's funny while their mom just shakes her head (whether it's in disapproval or in humor? haein doesn't really now,) meanwhile their younger siblings think of it as such a cool story, which made her seem cooler than their eldest brother.

of course hyun would always try to counter with his own story, nonetheless haein always finds a way to shush him, most of the time it's her trying to shove food into her older brother's mouth. that exact scenario there is their family's typical dinner night. it's probably what haein honestly missed the most from home, the sound of laughter filling her ears during a shared meal with the family without anyone rushing to do something and leave.

it may not be obvious with the way she presents herself to the world, however haein is just really a girl with a lot of love to give to the people who she cares for, she just has a difficult time expressing herself and aside from that she really did not like being attached to anyone because it makes her feel weak, so she never tries to make people stay or approve of her. if they want to stay she lets them be, if they don't she also lets them be. she always had been independent, sometimes that it becomes a conflict with her and her twin.

she prefers being alone most of the time as she is most comfortable like that, sometimes she actually feels bad that she keeps on putting hyun more than two meters away from her, she knows he just wants to be there for her. haein just feels like she wants to be different, she wants to be seen as her ownself because she always had grown up being compared to hyun and she doesn't like when hyun is also compared to her. they may be twins but they are their own person.

she really noticed that her parents had favorites when they grow up, when one of them does and like more mundane stuff their dad gets really proud of them and praises them, whereas if they do more magical stuff their mom would be the one who'd get proud. sometimes she jokes about how she felt like she's like hannah montana, "living the best of both worlds".

her parents are both involved in the wizarding world, but her dad really loves his human roots despite the fact he's a magical being. so they are both equally involved in two worlds. haein finds magic a little more interesting though, often times she found herself rummaging through her parents books about it.

they had a rule in the household that they won't get involved in magic until they turn fifteen, haein's stubborn and curious so the moment she knew how to read and actually understand what she's reading, she sneaks into her parent's study to skim through books and "borrow" most of them.

so when they were finally sent to attend mahoutokoro school of magic, it really came as a surprise that she was good at magic, it seemed like she was a prodigy. haein kept humble, she didn't want her parents to find out she'd been a disobedient daughter growing up.

it really got more exciting when she heard that crixia's institute of magical arts is opening their doors again and their parents wanted to transfer them, her parents talked highly about the institution, they were alumnis and were even professors there before it closed.

haein is both excited and anxious to be able to attend cima, especially when she feels the weight of her mom's expections on her shoulders.

ESTABLISHED CONNECTIONS

Son Hyun - her older brother, twin brother— they have different birthdays because he was born a little earlier than her, but they're definitely fraternal twins. haein loves to annoy him so much, but she's actually really soft for him.

Hwang Hyejin - haein's best friend, she may not say it or confirm it, but it's really just an unspoken thing with hyejin and her. haein had always felt this sort of emptiness with her tyro friends, but the moment she met hyejin, it's just different & it's the fact they're both witches but also something more. she didn't feel too detach around the older girl.

Song Dal — ddalgi! haein just loves to call dal like that, she won't admit it but she actually likes his presence, except when he tries to act like her older brother. she already got hyun for that.

Jang Riah - haein doesn't know why but whenever she sees riah, she's really got the itch to annoy the living daylights out of her, basically haein is the bane to riah's existence.

• i honestly just didn't create this girlie out of whim, i took inspiration after louise belcher from bob's burgers, toph beifong from avatar the last airbender, and illya kuryakin from the man from u.n.c.l.e.
• regarding the dynamics between hyun (her twin) and haein, hyun's mun and i thought of the maximoff twins (but this time haein's kinda a tsun to hyun unlike with wanda who's very open to pietro), we also based them off artemis and apollo (definitely their characterization in rick riordan's books)
